Abstract

Medication adherence can be defined as the degree to which patients take the prescribed dose of medication within the agreed interval and follow a described regimen. Patient non-adherence to medications can have a significant impact on health outcomes and health costs; patients who were not adherent to their medication were more likely to have poor outcomes than those who were adherent. Numerous different barriers to adherence to medications have been identified.
